Last week, we had the honor of welcoming Steve Ball, a dedicated board member of CDF since its inception, to visit our music program in Quang Tri. Steve has known and worked with CDF for many years. Sharing a deep passion for music Steve and CDF Team launched a music program back in 2023. His unwavering belief in the potential of music to inspire and empower has been a driving force behind this initiative.
Now in its second year, his program, which began last year, helps young participants develop their musical talents, confidence, and sense of community. This year’s program is made possible by the generous donation from Steve Ball, a senior CDF Board member, and Gabby Morritt, a talented visually impaired woman from the U.S. 🇺🇸 Their continued support has been vital to the program’s success, enabling more children to experience the joy and empowerment that music brings.

In partnership with CDF, this music program was launched at Quang Tri School for Children with Disabilities (QTSCD) with the goal of creating opportunities for blind students to express themselves, build confidence, and discover their talents through music. During his visit, Steve met the students, listened to their performances, and witnessed firsthand the profound impact this program is having. The children’s passion for music and the progress they’ve made were truly inspiring moments for everyone involved.

Steve, alongside his wife Allane, remains deeply committed to supporting this incredible initiative. Their dedication and vision have been instrumental in making this program a reality. Together with CDF, they are ensuring that music remains a source of empowerment for these children. Steve’s connection to CDF, and his belief in the power of education and music, has helped shape the program into what it is today.
“ I have read several articles about the impact of music and music training on children who are blind and how important it can be for their development.
I introduced the idea to the headmaster of QTSCD and this is how the program started ! ” Steve Ball
Looking ahead, the CDF Team, in collaboration with the principal of QTSCD, is excited to take the program to new heights. Expansion plans include welcoming more students, opening a second classroom, and creating a studio space. Each of these steps aims to provide a richer, more inclusive experience for the children, enabling them to explore their creativity and grow as individuals.

Beyond the immediate goals, this program symbolizes a larger vision for community development. Music has a unique way of bringing people together, fostering confidence, and offering a platform for self-expression. For the children at QTSCD, it’s more than just an extracurricular activity; it’s a pathway to a brighter future, one note at a time. By addressing the needs of these students, the program is also raising awareness about inclusivity and the importance of equal opportunities.
We invite you to join us in this journey. Your support can make a meaningful difference in the lives of these children. To learn more about the program and how you can contribute, please visit our website: https://www.cdfvn.org/post/music-program-for-visually-impaired-children
